Our Story

Jana Reinhardt Jewellery is me, Jana (the clue’s in the name!), and the other half is my husband Ross. Our brand might be just the two of us, but together we have over 50 years of experience in making jewellery. We are both qualified goldsmiths, both having started our training in 1996 (you can read a bit more about our qualifications here). After 10 years of working for different jewellery companies, we set up our own business. It was just me to start with, which is why it has my name.

In 2020, like many people, we re-evaluated what was important to us and decided that rather than continuing to take commissions for fancy engagement rings, we wanted to use our skills to support causes that were important to us. While making beautiful pieces that you’ll treasure for years to come remains a top priority, there’s so much more to the jewellery we create than the aesthetic. We also hope to change and challenge people’s perceptions of animals and stimulate conversation around how we treat other species and the world around us, one piece of jewellery at a time.

We have created an animal charity collection to increase awareness and raise money for several animal rights issues. From larger organisations like PETA to smaller charities like The Retreat Animal Rescue, our intention is to make a small contribution to organisations making a big difference to animal welfare. In addition to fundraising, we hope our jewellery might also make people think about the plight of the animals they represent and realise that they can make a change. Maybe when someone comments on someone's new necklace, it might allow the wearer to mention what the piece is about, possibly planting a seed in their friend's mind that might change the way they look at animals or the environment for the better.

Sustainability and respect for the world’s natural resources are incredibly important to Ross and I. We are always trying to make our business greener. All our pieces are made from recycled gold and silver. We no longer make gold-plated pieces because the process is detrimental to the environment and because it's temporary. We stopped banking with Barclays (one of the biggest funders of fossil fuel companies). We have made our packaging plastic free and signed up with Ecologi to sponsor a tree with every jewellery sale. You can read more about our commitment to sustainability here

When we aren’t making jewellery, we share our time between our daughters, our dogs and our pet rats. Ross is always experimenting with new vegan recipes. We love watching WaterBear documentaries as well as trashy Netflix shows (we like to cover all bases) and taking long family walks in the country.

Both Ross and I feel strongly about animal rights and decided in 2019 that we’d like to use our creations to try and raise money and awareness for different charities. So far, we’ve been able to make jewellery in aid of OVAID (a charity that helps orangutans), Galgos Del Sol (which looks after greyhounds), Friends of the Earth (£10 of each Pangolin Necklace sale goes to their campaign) and we used our established fox themed pieces to fundraise for Keep The Ban. We’ve also been fortunate enough to establish partnerships with both the amazing PETA and the NAWT. We intend for this list to continue to grow, keep your eyes on our Instagram and Facebook account to find out what’s next.

When we aren’t making jewellery, you’ll find us immersed in art projects with our daughters, experimenting with vegan recipes, watching a mix of trashy Netflix shows and wildlife documentaries (we like to cover all bases) and TRYING to squeeze in the odd yoga session. Our favourite thing is taking long family walks in the country with our dogs, Byron the beagle and Linus, a Romanian and a bit of lots of things.
