Christmas Survival Guide - Top tips for enjoying the festive period

  • Let it go. No, not the song from Frozen (although we guarantee there’s no escape from that this Christmas, or the next hundred). But as Elsa’s song suggests, it’s much better to agree to disagree. You may not share your great Uncle Albert’s odd political views or his belief in life on other planets, but just ignore him and move on. Much easier if you’ve followed our next piece of advice:
  • Get into the festive spirit, quite literally. Whether your preferred tipple is Champagne, wine or even such Christmas, erm, delights as Eggnog or Advocaat. Christmas is one the best occasions to enjoy a glass of what you fancy. What other time of year is it socially acceptable to have a drink with breakfast? Embrace it!
  • Set up a present wishlist. Sick of being presented with toiletry sets the bargain bin would be ashamed of? Give your family and friends some ideas of what you'd like to find under the tree. Might we be so bold as to suggest some contemporary jewellery?   • Put your feet up. Christmas Day is quite rightly known as one of the most stressful days of the year. Your day is likely to involve: Undercooked food. Overcooked food. Indigestion. Spilt drinks. Rows. Red Faces. All ending with a huge tantrum (from you) when a hugely complicated toy takes three hours to assemble and then fails to work. Remember to take time out and enjoy having your nearest and dearest around you.
  • And if all else fails, just remember, Christmas comes but once a year. Make the most of it while it’s here, and then forget about it. Until next September when the whole thing starts again...
