The Short-Crested Coquette is just one of 8 species of hummingbird classified as critically endangered. These specialbirds live in Mexico in a tiny area of the Sierra Madre del Sur. Sadly, this habitat is unprotected and is being cleared for agriculture, so we don't know how much longer this species of hummingbird will be with us. If you want to help protect hummingbirds consider donating to UNESCO, which has established around 40 biosphere reserves in Mexico to protect at-risk species.
