Supplying and sourcing ethical materials
All metals used by our company are from accredited suppliers, based in the UK and Germany. These suppliers are continually buying back and recycling scrap metal, thus helping to create more environmentally friendly jewellery. We also reuse our customers’ old or unwanted pieces in our bespoke jewellery and designer jewellery collections by melting them down and turning them into a brand new piece according to the clients’ wishes. Jana Reinhardt Jewellery is a long-standing affiliate of the Jeweltree Foundation giving our customers of bespoke jewellery the opportunity to be 100% ethical & eco-friendly.
The Jeweltree Foundation supports the Oro Verde Project in Colombia and Eco Andina in Argentina. Both guarantee ecologically mined precious metals and fair prices with premiums for the miners. In the mining process there is no mercury or cyanide used, there is no use of heavy machinery and there is no ecological disruption. Eco Andina also established a rehabilitation program for former silver miners that currently work the tailing in Bolivia.
Jana Reinhardt Jewellery only uses diamond suppliers that adhere to an international agreement known as the Kimberley Process, a joint initiative of governments, industry and civil society to stem the flow of conflict or blood diamonds. The trade in these illicit stones has fuelled decades of devastating conflicts in countries such as Angola, Ivory Coast, Congo and Sierra Leone. The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme imposes extensive requirements on its members (to date 75 countries) to enable them to certify shipments of rough diamonds as ‘conflict free’. Customers should be aware that the Kimberly Process is not perfect which is why we have now teamed up with the Jeweltree Foundation.
Through our affiliation with the Jeweltree Foundation it is possible to source diamonds that come directly from Canada. Canada ensures good working conditions for its miners and has laws in place to protect the environment. It is also the only country in the world to operate a system to monitor and track diamonds from the mine making sure that stones from conflict countries cannot infiltrate the supply line. This gives you the best guarantee possible that your bespoke diamond is entirely conflict free and environmentally friendly. Visit our Diamond Guide page.
We do our best to ensure that our stones come from non-violent and environmentally responsible countries without military dictatorships or child labour problems.
We can also source gem stones through Fair Trade Gems. Their stones are closely tracked from mine to market to ensure that every gem has been handled according to strict protocols. The protocols include environmental protection, fair labour practices at the cutting and jewellery factories, and a tight chain of custody that eliminates the possibility of treated gems or synthetics being introduced into the supply chain. The program also includes promotion of cultural diversity, public education and accountability. Visit our Gemstone Guide page.
All of our ethically sourced gemstones and precious-metals come with certification guaranteeing that the piece of jewellery we create for you is as good for the eye as it is for the soul!
